The Altmühl – a relaxed river for families
The Altmühl Valley is a paradise for nature lovers. Hills, wide meadows, valleys and species-rich forests characterise the region. Of particular importance is the Altmühl with its tributaries and outflows and the surrounding lake landscape.
The Altmühl is one of Germany's slow-flowing rivers and is therefore particularly well suited to boat tours, canoe trips and outings on a stand-up paddleboard. Beginners and families will find suitable stretches here, as will experienced boat tourers.
If you prefer more action, use the region's lakes for sailing, windsurfing, kiting or a relaxing day at the lake.

Altmühl
Canoeing and boat tours
In harmony with nature and yet active: canoeing in the Altmühl Valley is one of the most beautiful ways to discover the region and its flora and fauna.
Along the boat touring route you will find boat hire, launch points, rest areas and inns. This makes both short afternoon trips and boat tours lasting several days possible.

Before the tour
Check water levels, equipment and nature conservation
Before setting off, check the current water level and whether the river is navigable. Life jackets, sufficient sun and insect protection and clothing suited to the weather are part of the basic equipment.
Careful preparation is especially important when canoeing with children. Showing consideration for the riverbanks, animals and other visitors protects the sensitive river landscape.

Franconian Lake District
Sailing, surfing, kiting and SUP
In addition to the Altmühl, numerous lakes round off the range of water sports. If you want more than swimming, you will find space for sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing or stand-up paddling, depending on the location and the weather.
Schools and hire outlets offer courses and provide equipment. The Brombachsee also has further specialised water sports facilities.
